The Crown

Modern and European
"I just live down the road from the Crown and, with the exception of their being a little too precise with closing times, I have rarely been in a friendlier or more comfortable place. A good selection of wines, a view over Victoria Park, and a good lunch menu makes it a great place on a Sunday afternoon". Eoin 4/3/03
The Crown is situated in Bow on the corner of Old Ford Road and Grove Road, just on the edge of Victoria Park. The pub itself is fully organic and is owned and run by the same company that owns the Pelican in Notting Hill and the Duke of Cambridge in Islington. The menu is fairly limited, but the produce is fresh and the meals prepared to order. When I visited on a Sunday afternoon, myself and my friends chose a pasta dish with goats cheese, capers, peppers and tomato and a dish of roasted vegetables in a rich tomato sauce on a bed of cous cous sprinkled with freshly grated parmesan. The service is relatively quick and friendly, the drinks good - if not a little expensive, and the atmosphere pretty 'gastro darling'. Julie Cadogan 11/04/02
