Bethnal Green
Bethnal Green is becoming very popular as people with money realise it's only minutes from Liverpool Street. Its closeness to the City means it's a bit pricier than Bow further east. Pockets of former workers' cottages, once little more than slum and now cleaned up to provide small (and pricey) two- and three-bedroom houses in streets between Hackney Road and Columbia Road.
There are also some streets of Victorian terraces around Bethnal Green Road. The main disadvantage is that there are rarely more than a couple of streets before you turn the corner to yet another ugly council estate or tower block. But there are some real bargains to be had with former council flats and houses on the better estates. Stepney to the south is mainly all council property. The area is currently attracting City workers; young professionals; first-time buyers and investors. Conservation areas in the locale are Globe Road; Jesus Hospital Estate; Boundary Estate and Carlton Road. Bethnal Green
