"I was at Green & Red yesterday with a couple of friends(2 Jun '07). Loved it. I don't know what genuine Mexican food is like, but I can tell you that everything I had was fab.

We sat at the bar (upstairs) and snacked on several starter plates, dropped back a few beers and chatted with a lovely girl behind the bar. Very good, laid back, great service. Definitely recommend it."

"I lived in San Francisco for 5 years and ever since I got back have been trying to find good Mexcian food in London. At last I've found the place!

None of the usual sour cream and melted cheese, instead authentic and tasty. And a massive downstairs bar serving great cocktails. I just wish I lived closer..."

"One of my favourite bars ever and been to a few in my time!
Love the space, love the great drinks and the food is out of this world. I personally think it's totally unique and so not an All Bar One, this place is a one off and I'll return again and again and urge others to try for themselves."

"Finally a Mexican restaurant in London serving real food with authentic flavours, and the bonus is a huge selection of premium tequilas! I've been there three times in the last month; twice to eat, and once to hang out just drinking Mexican beer and sampling different tequilas. "

""Green & Red Bar and Cantina is part of the new breed of Mexican themed venues hoping to take our minds off those tacky taco selling chain restaurants that have pretty much formed our vision of South American food and drink in the UK.

The restaurant serves food inspired by the owner?s many travels through the home of tequila ? the Jalisco region of Mexico ? and the menu includes delicious, wholesome food, avoiding the soured cream and nacho cheese clich?s and instead concentrating on no fuss home style dishes including Birra, a lamb dish marinated in beer, light chayote and grapefruit salad and a selection of mouthwatering tapas dishes including Caldo Michi shrimp, which invites a combination of tasty coriander and flavoursome arbol chilli.

Three bars offer a staggering range of tequilas, which Green & Red hopes to become famous for, which are arranged and served as a fine wine or whisky might be with prices ranging from ?4.50 a shot to ?550 a bottle (one perhaps for only you true tequila connoisseurs) and handled expertly by trained and knowledgeable staff. Brought to you by the Worldwide Cocktail Club, who promote cocktail culture all over the world, you can expect to drink the finest beverages in style?Mexican style. As well as cocktails and tequila a range of Mexican beers and Latin American wines are on offer to carry the theme through no matter what your drinking preference.

With a music policy of soulful, Latin inspired sounds ranging from rock and roll to funk, you can enjoy your food and drinks in a bright, cheerful and friendly atmosphere lacking both in pretension and tackiness.""

""Maybe I'm all barred out, its just another bar really. The upstairs bar probably has too many uncomfortable seats if your planning on spending a shed load of time drinking with pals. The basement with it lower ceiling has a better vibe then the upstairs and more sofas at the back of the room. The cocktails were fine; the staff smiled and the bouncers, well bounced.

All in all slightly disappointing though.""

""Not entirely sure why some people have made the comments below, "nothing I haven't seen before" is an odd one - I can't say I've eaten food anything like that before, nor ever enjoyed tequila as much. The bar may not be perfect but the food and drink is better than anything else I've found in Shoreditch, and there are significantly fewer guys with mullets wearing sunglasses in the dark, which, for me at least, is a real bonus.""

""Forget the "All Bar One" comments, this is an unusually good Mexican restaurant, serving authentic Mexican food and excellent tequilas- not to be confused with tacky Tex-Mex joints, beloved of students and the loutish. Service was charming, and the restaurant is spacious, smart and unpretentious. Highly recommeded.""

""Been there a couple of times now. What a refreshing change to all those TexMex places. Great food (heaps of it too). The cocktail I had the last time I was there didn't really hit the spot, but there are plenty of others for me to choose from next time I go (tonight).

The lady complaining below about "our vision of South American food" clearly didn't pass O' Level Geography. But if she's interested in food south of Mexico, maybe she should check out the Armadillo restaurant in Hackney.""
